Xpu-Ha Palace

All of us Xpu-Ha Palace lovers would love some input on what is going on down on the resorts property.

All who know of the damage that Emily delt the place will probably already know that it closed down indefinitely.

After that there was widespread rumors of a land dispute and supposely Palace lost the a court case.
Gossip on the forum pages said that the Chapreau??? brothers had sold the land to Liverpool Department Store Chain. Seems Palace never owned? the land.

Anyway, that is the combined gossip in a shortened summary.

Now , all of a sudden Palace Website first posted on the Operational Updates a 144 room opening on April 1. Last posting on Jan. 10 showed a much anticipated opening from the website of May 1.

Please someone with any knowledge of the place tell me what is going on? Has anyone walked by the place to see if there is any construction?

I would appreciate any and all comments.

Re: Xpu-Ha Palace

I just returned from a stay at the neighboring Barcelo' and saw the Xpu Ha during a beach walk. The area was taped off and one day there was security walking the property. Another day there was one local fellow there and we tried to ask what was going on but we weren't able to communicate well enough to get any info. Another day there was heavy equipment on the property and demolition was taking place. As to whether there will be rebuilding, we were unable to find out.

Re: Xpu-Ha Palace

We stayed at the Aventura-Spa Jan 7th>14th. During the week we were given our yearly update from the time share folks. We usually go just to hear what is going on and if there are any new resorts opening etc. My main question this year was to find out what will happen at the Xpu-Ha as I love this place.Keeping in mind that the time share folks new how much I liked Xpu-Ha and were trying to sell me more weeks, this is what we were told.Palace Resorts is involved in a land dispute with the Mexican government. They are looking at ways which they can preserve some of the resort while appeasing the authorities at the same time. The hotel plans to open on a much smaller scale. They are talking about keeping the area which shares the same beach as the Barcelo open. They are talking about bringing in more sand from the point to meet up with the Barcelo beach.I could not get a straight answer about what will happen on the Copacabana side of the resort. I really felt like we have not been told the truth about what is happening. I feel very sad. Next time we go down we may not use our membership. I would be happy at the Copa or Club Maeva.

Re: Xpu-Ha Palace

We have been to Xpu-Ha 5 times, and consider it our home away from home. There was nothing like it along the Riviera Maya
I am seeing maps, a few pictures etc of the reduced Xpu-Ha that supposedly will open June 1st. It can't be compared with what it was.
I have no idea what story is factual, if the entire resort will be rebuilt over time, or kepts at the reduced size.
Sadly, we wont be going to Xpu-Ha this summer, couldnt stand being there knowing what it use to be like. We're headed down to Palladium in about 3 weeks, and will wait to see what happens in Xpu-Ha by this Christmas before thinking of going back.

Please post any news you might hear.........thanks
