Vacationing Here Archives 2
This fall when we went to book our spring trip the prices were prohibitively high, so we decided to go to Dominican Republic instead. I was kind of bummed because I just love the riviera maya. Good news/bad news, my mil will not be able to watch our kids so we have to take them with us. We were booked at an adult only resort. We called the agent and he got us a great deal at the Copacabana. Knowing we'd be eating dinner out most every night I'm not worried about the food, plus the kids will do better at a buffet for breakfast and lunch.
The countdown is on! Less than 2 months, time to turn it up a notch on the pilates!
Anyone stay there lately?
Hi Amy,
We have been thinking about going to the Dominican Republic. Have you stayed there before? If so, what beach is the best and how are the hotels (comparitavely speaking) to Cancun's? Also, does the Dominican Republic have a Mexican flavor? I really like the Mexican culture, but I too having been finding it getting to "Americanized"
. I would very much appreciate any information you may have. Thanks.
Chris
Hi. We were in the Dominican Republic last March 2003. Stayed at a very nice resort; but, nothing like going to Cancun. We leave next week for Cancun and will not be going back to the D.R. We were in Punta Cana and that country is very third world(which we knew ahead of time). The people were not as friendly as in Mexico. English, is not spoken frequently and just was not for us.
Chris - I've not been to DR, but from what I gather you don't really leave your resort. Very third world, don't forget, it's neighboring country is Haiti.
I love the pdc area because you can go off do and see lots of stuff. I agree about cancun, you might as well be in miami beach.
I figured with kids we'd be better off in mexico.
