Vacationing Here Archives 3
We are looking at going to Orlando for a week to do Disneyworld, et al, and then flying from there to Cancun for two or three weeks in Playa, all to happen next February/March (have to use up those accumulated vacation days! Man, I LOVE this new job!!=)
So my question is how to get the best deal on airfare from Orlando or Tampa to Cancun. I say "or Tampa" because we also want to drive over to Tampa while in Florida. I've tried looking on expedia.com, but it lists the cheapest price as being around $300 US per person. Could this be right? That's about the same as it would cost me to fly from up here in Vancouver to Cancun. I thought that it must be cheaper going from Florida as it is so close.
I looked up some info on the ferry from Tampa to Calica, but it doesn't really specify if it is in commission yet. Anyone know?
Thanks for all your help!!
We live here in the orlando area and you have to look for the internet sales--like on orbitz.com and others--it is not cheap here--last two times I used skyauction.com--got a good price--but you to be flexible as to airline you get.
Thanks, John, I will check those two places out. We are definately flexible, airline-wise.
Do you happen to know anything about the Yucatan Explorer ferry and if it is running yet?

Thanks again!
i couldn't remember it. :-) i've sent them an e-mail to try to get info about when it will start and the rates. wasn't there another ferry that was also going to be leaving from Tampa to the Yucatan? tim
Mayalines claims they'll be operational by November:
I know lots of folks who are anxious for this service to get started.

Yeah, they've got some fine tuning to do on their site.
For example, on the ROUTES map, they show Miami to Cancun - while on the ITINERARIES page, they show Tampa to Cancun (actually, Puerto Morelos). Hmmmm, we've got good friends who will be moving to Tampa in the fall. Guess they'd be able to bring their own car over to visit!
Everyone is optimistic that this ferry service can succeed. But, no one will be surprised if history repeats itself :-( .
