Isla Mujeres?

We are going to Cancun in October and would like to hear what some of you have done or would suggest doing on Isla Mujeres if we take a day trip there. I know that Cindy in NC is going to be there around that time and she suggested renting a golf cart and not taking a tour, going to Grafteon Park to snorkle or swim with the sharks. She also said that the shopping is good. Thanks for the help.

Re: Isla Mujeres?

you dont want to swim with the shark--but you can swim with dolphins for a large price...the turtle farm is a nice stop with the golf cart..its on the bayside...playa lancheros is a good place for lunch down there--great grilled fish....you can avoid the mundaca zoo--its lame and sad....give up the golf cart in town and shop and bar hop--especially buhos beach bar, and sergios beach bar for sunset...A great place to eat and people watch downtown is pizza rolandis...if you dotn want to spend 10 bucks at the garrafon park try the hotel garrafon di castillo--only costs 20 pesos to snorkel there--next door to the park--however the park is REALLY beautiful and has great facilities.

Greg, no swim with the shark?

Why not? I have seen a lot of people with pictures holding the shark. Are you chicken?
Now Greg.

Re: Isla Mujeres?

I just got back from Cancun and will share some information with you. If you are in the hotel zone (where most people stay in Cancun), you can take the bus R1 to downtown Cancun (called centero) for six pesos. There you can take a taxi for 35 pesos to the Peurto de Cancun to go to Isla Mujeres. At the port you can walk up to the boat and for 35 pesos you can go to the Isla de Mujeres. The total cost one way is about $9.00 US. This is much better than the $35 to $50 packages that they try and sell you in the hotel zone. On the island you can rent a golf cart but they are expensive $15.00 per hour; a cheaper alternative is the bus. You can ride it all over the island for 3 pesos. I enjoyed my trip to the island and hope that you do too.

Re: Thanks Greg

for some more great ideas! :)

Re: Isla Mujeres?

Thanks for the good instructions Dean, that sounds like the best way to go.

I dont go for attractions like that...

and of course I am chicken but feel sorry for the shark....conditions of confinement--but hey I dont want to think about that.

Well, I guess that is true Greg! I have mixed

feelings about feeling sorry for a shark. But I guess it is kind of cruel.

Re: Isla Mujeres?

We stayed on/in the hotel zone in Cancun and took the ferry from El Embarcadero for $15 per person and purchesed a golf cart at Embarcadero for $35 --all day. We drove ALL around Isla--shopped--parked at Buho's and lounged on Playa Norte and drank beer while we layed in the hammocks and swung on the swings---THAT was paradise!

Re: The shark can leave, but it doesn't....

I was eating at a restaurant right there and Maggie wanted to see it and I got to talking to one of the guys taking pictures. It's a pretty good-sized pen but I said something about the shark being confined and he said --'no--there is a big home in the fence there!' He said it could go out and leave and come back when it wanted... I don't know. Just saying what I heard!
