: Finding a job in a resort area such as Cancun can be fairly easy if
: you are willing to work in Timeshare at one of the hotels. It
: also helps if you speak spanish or are even multilingual. It can
: be a tough business however if you have no sales experience and
: the pay is comission only (usually). Without prior experience I
: would say you would need at least six months of expense money
: saved when you went to Cancun. Another option would to try and
: get into PR work for a hotel or tour operator in Cancun. Also it
: is easier if you have a specialty that is not common in Mexico.
: It will almost have to be tourism related. BTW, What do you do
: in the US? There is no shortage on workers in Mexico and they
: are becoming more and more educated on the whole every day. The
: Mexican Universities are producing many engineers and computer
: field related graduates by the thousands.
: One thing that makes it a little difficult is you have to have a
: permit to work and to get the permit you have to have a
: 'sponsor'....in other words already have the job lined up. Other
: considerations are pay, housing, cost of living. While the cost
: of living in Cancun is higher than most of Mexico the pay is
: only slightly higher and for most who don't work in tourism it
: is no higher than the rest of Mexico.
: I would suggest an extended stay in Cancun and get to know a few
: people and see if something works for you. It may not be what
: you like to begin with but it could be a start. Also finding an
: affordable place to live, etc, all takes time.
: Ideally, working for an American company that does business in
: Mexico would be the way to go OR being able to cyber-commute for
: an American company and keep all your banking, financials, etc
: in the USA. Just have to come back to the US every six months or
: when the company says so. If I had a successful internet company
: that I could run from Cancun I would be there 10 months out of
: the year (at least):))
