The restaurants
The Aventura has 5 eating areas, of which 3 are restaurant. It is hard to imagine that you could get hungry and not find some food there. You will need one of the schedules and diagrams to be able to navigate your way to the best foods at the right time. Many of the web sites, especially those which support or sponsored by the Place Resorts have some errors in the times and schedules for restaurant. The information is for July 2000 which changed in May 2000 and may be different upon your visit. Map 1 of the lobby area details the times and meals served at the restaurants in July 2000, while we were there.

Places to eat the Central Lobby Game Room (A) had juices and snacks much of the day. There were often hot snacks, cold sandwiches, almost always fruit. The pool bar and food area (I) served drinks, cold drink (serve yourself machines), and food. Wear your swim suit, this is a relaxed spot to snack, have a relaxed meal, or select one of the major restaurants for a great meal. More below on the pool bar and eating area. We had read from some reports that the food here was just so-so. My wife and I both thought it was very good, lots of variety, we would check out the buffet line then check out the grill. The Mundaca had covered plates of the main meat items for that meal, just to the left as you entered the door. Of the five all inclusive resorts we have visited, this was one of the best.

Ventanas Restaurant - This is the one with the indoor swimming pool (F), it serves only breakfast and dinner, NO LUNCH. The schedule says it serves continental breakfast from 6:30 - 7:00 AM, wouldn't know, I may stay up that late but wouldn't get up that early on vacation. Regular breakfast is from 7:00 to 11:00 AM, and it's great. The variety is almost unimaginable. The grill will fix omelets to suit your taste or eggs the way you like them. The buffet line has scrambled eggs, potatoes (different style each day) sausage, bacon, and much more. There is fresh fruit galore, boxed cereal ( don't forget the bowls of nuts and extras above the cereal boxes) and rolls and pastries to delight all. Make your own toast (white or wheat bread), or have the juice man make you a special drink. There are special watch them cook it Mexican breakfast delights and all kind of juices from the machine ( white or chocolate milk, watermelon, apple, pineapple, or orange).
Upon entering you will wait to be seated, you will be ask if you want smoking or non smoking, the best thing to say upon being addressed is, Hola, Buenos dias, dos, no fumar - this means Hello, Good morning, 2 no smoking, just eliminate the no is you smoke. A little Spanish will get you a long way in Mexico. We often wanted to sit outside so we set in the smoking section outdoors. I don't ever remember seeing someone smoking during breakfast. The waiters are outstanding, you will be ask what you want to drink and then you can go to the buffet line. Everything my wife and I ate here was excellent.
The evening meals were just as superb as breakfast. If you don't like what you see on the dinner buffer, go to one of the other 2 restaurant. People wore casual clothing here for all meals.

La Hacienda Restaurant
This restaurant is the only one on the resort that is air conditioned, it serves food cooked in the Mexican style, not necessarily food you would call Mexican or TexMex or California Mex. My wife and I lived in Spain for almost 3 years and you must try this restaurant to really enjoy the experience, it's the best at the resort.
They serve dinner from 6 PM to 10 PM only and they no longer take reservations for dinner as before. This is one of the dress up restaurant which request men be in long pants. Most ladies dressed up in nice dresses or sun dresses with sandals or casual shoes. My wife an I ate here 4 of the 7 nights and it was superb. The menu is on the board outside, it changes once a week on Thursdays. Some of the great things we had were the seafood soup, chicken tortilla appetizer, and the beef and shrimp dishes. They have a special each night that is not on the menu. There deserts are to die for. The restaurant like all the others has it's own bar.

Mundaca Restaurant
The Mundaca restaurant is the tropical thatched roof building (K), and is open for breakfast (7 - 10 AM, lunch (12:30-4 PM, and dinner (6 - 11 PM) it also houses the reservations only international dinner at 6:30 and 8:30 PM. Meals are served buffet and a la carte at this restaurant. The main menu changes but most night you have a choice of the buffet, sirloin steak, rib eye steak, beef or shrimp kabob's, pork chops or sliced pork and much more with all the trimmings. They also have the best guacamole on the resort. Several nights they had fresh octopus along with the usual fresh calamari. The deserts are great, with a help your chilled rack near the entrance, ice cream sunday bar with all the trimmings, coffee to kill for, and fruit popsicle's. The restaurant like all the resort restaurants has it's own bar and serves all the drinks you have had all day and more. Wine in red, white, and white zinfandel is available most of the time. They do sometimes run out of white zinfandel.

Pool Bar and Eating Area
This large thatched roof area houses the pool bar (bldg I ), casual eating area, and tables and chairs in a shaded area where you can relax, and eat, and drink during the day. The bar includes a walk up area, and a pool seated area. The pool side has about 20 stools in the pool to sit and relax on, while having your favorite beverage. The mosaic stool eats are just inches under the water and a favorite hang out during the day and the activity center of the pool around 5 PM.
Food is served at the other side of the bar almost all day long. There is a variety of foods including chips, nacho chips, meat & cheese topping for the nacho chips, hot dogs, fries, and much more. Beginning around 11:30 they fire up the large grill near by and cook hamburgers, sausage, and steak for several hours. There are soft drink and juice machines if you do not want something from the bar. Waiters or waitresses move about the area clearing the tables and will get you your favorite drink from the bar, or help yourself.

The Pool
The pool is like no other at a resort that we have visited before, it is enormous, but offers all the choices you could imagine. There are areas to swim, relax, talk, visit, drink, play, and be alone. The pool is never deeper than 3 ½ to 4 feet, with many areas only 4 to 6 inches deep. There are secluded coves, shaded areas and Jacuzzi's. We found a nice spot where we could put 2 lounge chairs in the pool in 4 inches of water and rest our vacation away. There is also the swim up bar.
Pool Activities
The recreation staff organizes games in and around the pool from about 10 AM to past 5 PM. Some of the activities include- volleyball games, ping-pong, water aerobics, painting, stretching exercises, water basketball, and Spanish lessons. There are organized volleyball activities at least twice a day.
