Playa del Carmen: IB* (7/1-7/8), Day 3, Part 1

Cheryl and I were up at about 8:30 that morning. We both went directly to the balcony to look at the sky. Blue again, but with a few more clouds. We got ready very quickly and were off to the breakfast buffet. Cheryl was very impressed-breakfast is her favorite meal-and there was so much to choose from. She and I both had waffles, fruit, bacon, sausages, and juice. Cheryl even went back for seconds. After we ate, we went to the Tucan lobby as I had to change our dinner reservations for Tuesday evening at La Gondola since I would be in Playa with "A." This time the queue was much longer and we waited about 25-30 min. I changed the reservation to Wednesday evening and confirmed Friday night (my birthday) for La Marimba (the steakhouse). While in the lobby, we did a little shopping (the Iberostar's shops are quite nice and very reasonable).
That done, we went back to our room to dump the loot and get our gear for the day. Oh yes, another beach/pool day--it is so beautiful--we just couldn't get enough. We decided to take out kayaks today (a blast)-the waves were better as it was windier that day (could there be a storm brewing?). Did the roast/roll/swim/drink deal again. Around noon I checked at the dive and water sports huts and to my great disappointment, they were not offering any banana boat rides that day (don't know exactly why). Donna and I had done the ride back in March and it was a lot of fun. I really wanted to take Cheryl as I knew she would enjoy it. Maybe later in the week (it turned out we never did get to take the ride). In the early afternoon, the sky became very dark and ominous, the wind picked up and it started to POUR. We quickly headed for cover at the palapa grill to have lunch. We enjoyed the great thin crust pizza, salad, fries, hot dogs, paella, and a piece of flan pie with kiwi and strawberries to top it all off. During lunch, I bumped into some Starfriends I had met and danced with on my March visit. I introduced Cheryl to Beto (with the ponytail), Ivan (cutie who looks a lot like Lance of the band ‘N Sync) and Carlos. Ivan and Carlos joined us for lunch and Cheryl was in her glory (she thought Ivan was great-I had some pics of him from the last trip and she thought he was so cute). We promised the guys we would attend the show tonight (Vegas show) and afterwards dance with them. They were so sweet. Kisses on the cheeks for both of us. See ya later guys! What a fun place this is. The friendliest people ever!
After lunch, we walked around the pool area a bit observing the goings on before we went back to our loungers on the beach. Caught sight of "A" and went to say "hola," wink, wink. He came over to speak with us. I asked how his "boys' night out" was and he said it was fun but they drank way too much and he stayed up all night. "Aren't you hanging today?" I asked. "No, I'm fine," he replied and smiled. Ah, but he is a bit younger than me (the only way to go). "A" asked me to stop by to see him later that evening close to quitting time and I agreed. Great, thought Cheryl, she's ditching me again. Hey, kid. Go out and find your own fun (and she did). There's plenty to be had here! We said "adios" and Cheryl and I headed back to la playa. (Note: I should mention -for the benefit of the pigs- that this time there were many more topless women on the beach. About the same amount of ball-buster Speedos.)
I stayed a little while with C on the beach and then decided I wanted to got into town that afternoon. Cheryl wasn't into it and just wanted to stay on the beach and then go to the pool later. Ok, fine. I'll go solo. And I did. I quickly showered and changed, got a taxi and was in town by 4 p.m. (BTW-cab fare to PDC from Playacar is $4USD.) Did a little shopping for some silver (got a good deal at a shop near the dock) and a sundress. I just had to stop into Senor Frogs to have a quick one and to see if the "frog boy" was still working there. (In March, Donna and I met up with a really cute little busboy there who sort of latched onto us. We took a picture of him, but later, when we got the film developed, we had to dub him "Sr. Frog's logo boy" as he did not quite look the same as we remembered-could it be that he simply was not photogenic or was it the "yards" of Margaritas and Cuervo shooters we had been drinking?) I decided to have a yard and scan the place for him. No luck-could be his day off. Finished that most excellent drink and left to return to the resort at about 6 p.m.
I went directly to our room and found Cheryl having a siesta. Hard day, kiddo. I woke her up at about 7 p.m. to go to dinner again at the buffet as we did not want to miss the show tonight and dancing with Ivan, Beto and Carlos. Again, sorry, I don't recall much about dinner, but they had hake which Cheryl tried and loved (3 helpings). Great kid, you eat your fish, it's good for you.
We made it to the Bar Salon for the show which was quite good (Vegas theme). The dancing was fabulous although some of the guys' costumes left something to be desired-very tight "tres gay" floral jumpsuits (we later told Ivan our thought of this and he laughed quite a bit and said I should design the costumes). I took a stab at the "club dance" after the show--not bad for an old "abuela," I must say. Then the boys saw us and nabbed us for a dance--Oh, sweet Jesus. We were on cloud 9. Cheryl was thrilled-she doesn't dance very much but could not refuse these Mexican hotties. iHombres caliente! What fun we had!
