LA HABICHUELA AND HOT SONGS FROM THE 70’S
Back at La Habichuela: Manuel was our host/waiter. He showed us to our seats (we WERE going to request the garden area – but after the very short walk – we were hot and drenched). Yea!! Air-conditioning! Manuel asked us how we heard about the restaurant and of course – we mentioned the website. I had already told Mark about the specialty of the house – so he knew what he was having. We started off with a bottle of Red Wine. Next came the garlic bread – which I absolutely loved. I especially enjoyed the butter sauces – on garlic butter the other made with tequila and white wine. I think I had maybe 5 or 6 of them. Mark ordered the Cocobichuela (Lobster and Shrimp over rice in a curry sauce served in a coconut with fried bananas on the side – for those who haven’t heard). I order the Lobster and Beef served with green peppers, garlic sauce and almond sauce. The service was wonderful!!!! When our meal arrived, with much fanfare, Mark wanted to take a picture. Thing is – the only camera we had with us was the panoramic camera. So…. We have a lovely panoramic picture of our meal. Our meal was to die for – it was excellent. Mark finished his meal quickly – but I eat slower and the poor waiter would come over because he thought I was finished. I had to explain to him that I eat slow and take several “breaks”. LOL. This seemed to happen everywhere in Cancun. The minute it looked like we were finished eating – the plate was GONE, (well – they ask – THEN they take the plate). Finally finished the meal. Mar wants dessert. We NEVER order dessert – always too full – but hey – it’s VACATION! We decided to get the Strawberry Flambé and a bottle of white wine. They make the flambees at your table. First they caramelize the sugar, add some liquor, strawberries, brandy and white wine. Cooked to perfection and served over a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream. WONDERFUL! – but very rich. And no, I did not let Mark take another panoramic picture. The total bill was $90 excluding tips. Manuel gave us his card and got us a taxi for our ride back to the Moon Palace. We might have stuck around the hotel zone longer – but we had all of our stuff with us and didn’t want to lug it around anymore. It was about 8:00pm when we headed back. On the way back – we were talking about the music at the Moon Palace pool. They really like Gloria Estefan. They tended to play the same songs over and over and over. No biggie – but we were just laughing about it. The Taxi driver heard us and pulled out a cassette tape to play. It’s as it were his “secret” stash. He was so hyped about being able to play it for us. He played us some “cool” music and we jammed all the way back to the Moon Palace. The Taxi driver was DIGGING this music!! Okay – so we didn’t exactly “jam” – but at least we were listening to some different music. Even if it was the Bee-Gees, Olivia Newton-John and songs from Grease and Fame. Hey – we liked it! Sang the whole way back. Got back to the Palace ( I just love saying that – LOL) and caught the Caribbean Night Show. Decided to spend the rest of the night in the Jacuzzi and the room. Ahh – this is the life!! Well – almost…
