My husband and I went to the Moon Palace to celebrate our 10th anniversary. It is very rare that I say this about any resort - but, it actually exceeded my expectations. The food was surprisingly very good. If you go looking for a good steak or burger you will be disappointed. If you stick with their specialties you will be very happy. It is just like going to any resteraunt - some dishes are better then others, some waiters are better then others. Tip - Ask for brand name liquor and they will always give it to you. Makes the drinks all the yummier.
We LOVED the beach!!! I love to walk on the beach and there were miles and miles of secluded beaches at both ends of the resort. The ocean water was not as clear as the hotel zone, it was more of a natural beach environment. I grew up spending a lot of time at some of the beaches outside of Tallahassee, Fl. - they reminded me a lot of that. The water sports were fun - we really enjoyed the free sailing, windsurfing and kayaking. You can't do those things in the hotel zone due to the higher surf.
Our room was on the Moon side (the other side is the Sunrise/Nuizic). The Moon side was not as busy. The pool was a little smaller but still huge. The days we visited the Sunrise pool we had a hard time finding a good chair, never had that problem at the Moon. We enjoyed the personalized service we received at the Moon and it was so easy to eat and also enjoy the Sunrise. Our room was in the farthest building directly facing the ocean. It was very quiet. Although we had to walk a little further then most it was a beautiful walk along the ocean. There were always golf carts to take us to our room if we were feeling very tired.
The service was perfect. So many people doing everything they could to make your vacation as perfect as it can be. The house keeper did something special every day - bring fresh flowers into the room, folding our towels in cute shapes, folding our clothes and organizing our shoes. Wish I could bring her home w/ me! The waiters and bar tenders were so friendly. One day I was waiting for a fruit shake (yummy!) and wasn't smiling (no reason, just early in the morning). A waiter came over to me and asked if everything was o.k. That he wanted to see everybody smiling :o) They all went above and beyond that call of duty.
The only things that fell short were the shuttle service from Cancun back to the Moon and the Deserts. The shuttle service left us waiting, didn't show up at all, came and left 15 min. early. We accepted the fact that we just had to take the shuttle into Cancun and pay for a cab to return. Really wasn't very expensive - could always find others to share the cab ride with (only $16/cab - 4 people per cab). The resort could really benefit from a good pastry chef. There were a few good deserts, but they were few and far between.
From the beautiful room w/ an amazing view to the great food and drinks the Moon Palace was everything we had hoped for and more. I can not wait to return. Anybody looking for a quiet, secluded resort will enjoy the Moon Palace. Go with a positive attitude, enjoy the things that the resort has to offer and you will have the vacation of your dreams.
