Trip Report Club Viva Maya, Playacar
Jan 16, 2000 – Jan 31, 2000

We flew out of Ottawa, Canada to Cancun. A one hour delay but nothing major. Nice quick flight, 3hrs 45 min. Hopped on the bus to Playacar ( a 40 minute drive) and checked in right away, by this time it was 5 am and time for bed!!
The next 14 days we basically relaxed on the beach, swam in the ocean, the pool.
The grounds at the Viva Maya are amazingly lush and tropical and clean. The room was a standard 2 double bed room. Nothing fancy but nice.
The beach at the Viva Maya is great, not eroded at all. A lot of the nearby hotels had very eroded beaches. The Viva Maya seemed to have a staff that was continously working off the beach with sand bags etc. The water was perfect, no seaweed, calm and so blue.
Our weather was unbelievable. 80’s and sunny every day. No rain at all. There were a few days that we were hoping for some clouds to appear.
The food at the Viva Maya was quite good compared to some other resorts we have been to. In the buffet restaurant they had everything you could imagine for breakfast ( they had great hash browns) and for dinner we they had great selections including a huge salad bar. You could always find something good. We tried the a la carte restaurant in the Viva Maya and it was ok. One night we went to the sister hotel Club Azteca and had dinner in their a la carte restaurant and it was quiet good.
We went into town a few times during the evening. We ate at Blue Lobster twice. The best and biggest lobster tails I have ever had. Had drinks at La Parilla, Captain Tutix and a few other places. On our last day there we biked into town which was a lot of fun.
The Animation staff at the Viva Maya was the best part. They were so friendly and fun. By the end of the two weeks I was sad to say good bye to them. Special mention to Amy, Goran, Luis, Juan and LeAnne. They are all great people. The activities were very fun and had a great time everyday with them, especially the talent show, that was a lot of laughs for everyone.
The disco at the Viva Maya was a lot of fun. I was surprised at how many people went there every night. One night we went to Tutix until very late and it was a great place to go very late at night.
