The hotel and everything was great . . . aside from the fact that my husband was in the room sick with "montezuma's revenge" for 3 days! His stomach cannot handle whatever bacteria is in Mexico, even with the medication he was taking. The room was very nice - great hot tub, king size bed, mini-frig stocked with cold drinks, & several English speaking channels on the TV. All in all, the hotel was very beautiful and my husband & I both loved the way the "beach" was set up. I loved having breakfast at the outside restaurant overlooking the water - I couldn't figure out why anyone would want to eat breakfast at the other restaurant in the main building! We tried all the restaurants for dinner, but La Hacienda was by far the best (though one night there was an hour wait - but that was at 8:00pm). We even enjoyed the free tour to Tulum and Akumul. The views at Tulum were gorgeous and we saw a huge turtle snorkeling in Akumul. We took advantage of the free transportation to Playa Del Carmen. Though they take you at 9:50am and don't pick you up until 5:30pm, we actually stayed there the entire time (we anticipated getting a cab back to Aventura after a couple hours). We shopped at a lot of the cute shops, walked the beach, swam in the waves, had a $7 US Margarita at Senior Frogs, then had many more Margaritas & fajitas at a great beach-side restaurant all for $20 US. The only "problem" at Aventura was that they wanted you to stay only at their resort or places they are associated with. For example, we asked many hotel people where to golf and they all said Playacar for $120US per person. Now that is a bit above our limit! We knew there was a 9 hole course right next door in Puerto Aventuras, but everyone acted like they never heard of the place! We golfed there for $44US per person for as many holes as we wanted! Another example: we asked hotel people where to shop and they all said "right here in the hotel gift shop"! It was just a little bit odd. Anyway, no big deal. We had a great vacation and I wouldn't hestitate to recommend the resort.
