...actually this report is titled; "Living La Vida Loco" For truly we did not escape reality this trip, but exchanged it...we LIVED there for two weeks...all the trips before were vacations, for years, then we purchased our condo and it was go go go, which we enjoyed but it was more work than relaxing. This trip we found the balance. We actually got to sit back and enjoy the fruits of our labours. I read TWO books the first week! Steve still got to tinker with various projects, as did I, and we still made a trip to Cancun for supplies...operative word here "A" trip...cooked Yucatecan chicken in the condo and spent some fabuklous time driving down the odd little roads...something we haven't done for a loooooong time. Went for walks in the mornings and saw a LOT more parrots than we have in a long time, something most awesome!! We drove down the road to Xel-ha to stop by the shop there to look for a poster and saw a 6 ft. Boa going across the road in front of us! That was exciting!!!! Then on one of our walks we saw another one that was squished and only about 2 ft and a different color. One of the last mornings we were there we went for a walk and Steve almost stepped on one! eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek! He saw it mid-step and yelled SNAKE!!!!! I saw it backing into the hole...it was a pretty intense, adrenalin rushing kind of moment! lololol....we made a wee bit more noise on our walk after that! We tried to make enough "snake-be-gone" noise, but not enough to scare the other wildlife we hoped to see. We heard a turkey and saw a woodpecker on that walk.;-)
Let's see, what else? We ate at Zamas and at Gringo Daves and we would HIGHLY reccommend both of those places...some of the best food down there! We also ate at La Lunita. Our friend, Miguel, who used to work at Lol-ha is there now so it was good to see him and they have the BEST coconut shrimp I have EVER had!!! yum! We went to dinner there the first time with Ann and her husband Chuck...they are awesome people!!! We met them on the 25th of FEb and hit it off right out of the gate...love those guys!
I am really rambling through this report, aren't I??? lololol....lets see, we were supposed to meet Doris and Vince and Sandi and Bob from the Cancun/riviera Maya board and Sandi and Bob couldn't make it but Doris and Vince did...again, awesome, awesome people and we had a great visit. Thanks for the visit you guys...hope the rest of your trip was good.;-)
On Monday the 4th of Mar we were supposed to meet Dale at the Lol-ha and Ann and Chuck and Kay and Gary...Ann and Chuckwere the only ones who showed and so the guys ran to Leos and picked up pizza while Ann and I went to the condo. We also had a couple come visit for a week and they were there too and we all had a nice visit. Was sorry we didn't get to meet Dale though...Dale? what happened to you??? Also, Kay stopped by the day we were leaving and thought the party was on the Monday the 11th...ooops! Kay has been very busy so we will forgive her for missing the party! lol;-) At least we got to see her before we left. She is a doll and we love her.
We went to dinner with our friends Dennis and Diane and went to happy hour and saw lots of our friend and stayed home sometimes, and slept in the hammock on the beach for a few hours together all curled up oe night...
It rained to beat the band one day and was freezing and we decided to go to Playa,...I will not be on that road in rain like that again unless it is an emergency...nasty! It was funny in Playa though, people were walking around with plastic bags on them...it was fun to people watch as always there.
I had taken three huge bags of things for the condo down with us and it was fun putting together the various projects we had. I took two lamps down and lots of material and had to contact a lady in Cancun who we know to come down and take measurements to upholster and such...make curtains...we painted frames and had two frames made out of bamboo by the guy on the side of the road outside of Playa who made our furniture last year....turned out great! I had taken a Cuba poster down and it looks fabulous! I will post a pic when I get my film back. I layed out by the pool in between putting coats of paint on the frames and didn't realize I had bumped a frame and had paint all over the back of my leg! bwahahahaaaaaa...........The last full day we had there, we spent by ourselves and drove down to look at Ann and Chucks property at Tankah..unbelievably beautiful spot! They done well!!! ;-) Also went to Gringo Daves...MAJOR YUM!!!!! shopped around Tulum and then went back home and went out snorkeling..AWESOME!!!! The coral is beautiful and we saw a school of fish that had 10's of thousand of fish! no kidding!!! amazing! These fish were around 6 inches long and whitish/silver and would swim all around you and they would all turn at once and flash siver..wow!!! Then the huge 5 foot long baracuda came rushing in on the hunt and we decided that being right in the middle of all these bait fish was probably not the best place to be!!!!YIKES!! lololol...we got out and our friends were coming down the beach and so we sent them out to see them...heheheh (ain't we bad??!!!)
The day of our departure came too soon as it always does, but there was a satisfaction there, like after having a meal that was deliscious and just right. I can't stop the passage of time and so I enjoy the time I have while I have it...I know, God willing and the river don't rise, that I will be back, and I had something wonderful to look forward to when I got home...moving! That and Steve's retirement!! whoo hooo.....besides, finding contentment in any circumstance is an amazingly satisfying thing. ;-)
Kay stopped by and we had a wonderful visit, just wish we would've had more time! NEXT time!!!;-) We packed up and headed out for the airport. The plane took off two hours late but was otherwise uneventful and we arrived in Vancouver BC, went through customs, froze our butts off on the way to the hotel slept great and got up and drove home to Washington the next morning.....brrrrrrrrrrrrrr......hasta la vista, baaaa-beeeeee! " The end of this chapter...summary;fabulous time and met fabulous people and made some great friends that we will look forward to seeing again. ;-)
cyberhugs,
Sharoonie:)
