Where do I start? I left heaven (USA) to visit hell (MEXICO). The resort was beautiful but almost everyone we met had a bad stomach problem because of the way the food was prepared. The food was horrible!!!!!!! The dinning was hot and the food was left out too long and spoiled. The poor cooks had to wear long sleeves and hats and had to cover their mouths. The didn't however cover their forhead and the sweat fell into the food. They couldn't help it -- it was the condition the were forced to work in. No a/c in the dinning areas except the ones that you had to make reservations for and they were not good either. The a/c in our room didn't work and the mini bar was hot all the time. Everyone boasted about how the housekeepers would do extra little things for a tip - We left a tip the first day only to find that our room hadn't been touched. They came that night and gave it a quick once over and left the seaweed that came out of my husbands trunks the first day. This seaweed stayed there the whole five days we were there. They want you to reuse your towels and please don't dare ask for wash cloths -- I don't think anyone knows what they are for. The people were not friendly as reported. We were just one in a million that wonder through everyday. Please be warned - don't go to Playa Del Carmon. We were harrassed as soon as we stepped out of the cab. The guy promised $200. USD and all sorts of things if we'd go and then he said at the end - "You'll need a major credit card!" The people in town were so rude. They would get mad if you didn't go to their shops. I don't want anyone to experience what we have just suffered through. I got sick the second night we were there and I'm still sick today. We were there June 7 - 11 2002. This is June 15th 2002. It cost around $2,500. USD and it was not worth a penny. The resort does not have anything more than our own beautiful Destin Florida. This is the biggest rip off I've ever seen. People, please don't waste your money at this place, futhermore don't waste you money in Mexico at all. We have all they have and more in the good ole USA. The Barcelo Maya is not what it's cracked up to be. The smell of the building at the beach grill was enough to make you sick. I have never had food poisoning until may visit to this place. It's out in the middle of nowhere. The drinks are watered down and all the drunks gathered around the pool bar and urinated in the water and bragged about it. Our nine year old daughter cried to come home. We were so sorry that we made a decesion to go to Mexico. I can't say enough to warn you all but if you need to know anything further please feel free to e-mail me with your questions. I'll be more than happy to tell you the truth about this money pit. Five star resort - No not even a one!!!!!!!!!!
