Here is day one of August 29,2002 @ the Gran Caribe Real.
We arrived at The Airport (New Orleans)at 6:30 am to (Atlanta)
then from Atlanta took a flight to Cancun. we arrived @ Cancun Approx. 11:30 a.m. and went through Customs, all together we were a family of Eight. Some of us got the Red Light, so we had to wait for them to get searched. "BEWARE" of Time Share salesperson inside the Airport, they will call you to their Booth as "Tourist imformation" whatever you do "DON'T LISTEN". Outside the Airport our shuttle van was waiting, we filled the van up and off to the Hotel we went, The Grand Caribe was the second stop, and I have o say we were all very very excited to let the Vacation begin.
By the time we made it to the Hotel it was around noon, and to our luck we checked in right away. Well, we had reserved Ocean View hotel rooms, and Rooms 411 and 429 were given to us. Since our rooms were so far apart, we asked the front desk to get us rooms next to each other, but unfortunately front desk said they were all Booked. This situation made me remember reading someones bad experience @ the front desk with Omar, I was relieved to find out this jerk was fired-- Thank God. Well, we go to the rooms- BIG LET DOWN. We had reserved Ocean View rooms but both rooms had very little ocean view and both rooms were very low to the ground. I then remembered about Scooter's experience, how he talked to the bellman. So I talked to my bellman, his name is Fernando. I talked to him about finding us rooms next to each other and on a higher floor.
He promise to do his best and will contact us in the Morning, We decide to make the best of it. We changed clothing and went downstair to check out things we could do with our ALL- INCLUSIVE.
We checked out the grounds of the hotel, the pools, and the beach. They were all very nice. The beach water was calm, the Swim up Bar was very awesome, and The Staff were all very friendly. We tried everything: pizza made the way we wanted, Shimps Cocktail, lunch buffet, and also tried some of the drinks, Miami Vices, and a whole lot of different drinks. Well, for dinner we had reservation @ Maria Margaritas Restaurant. We had a great dinner, from Lamb Chops to any kind of meat we wanted. I did order more than two entries at one time, along with my favorite tequila and a miami vice. Well, at the end of the day we were all very tired from traveling in the morning; we ended up going to sleep around midnight.
We woke up early the next morning to make the best of our vacation. Just as we were getting ready to leave to Islas Mujeres our bell boy Fernando calls he said "Good News, I found two great rooms on the 9th Floor next to each other, Rooms 927 and 929." He then said " I will pick up your luggage and move them to your new rooms." We were all very excited to see the new rooms, but we couldn't check into the rooms until after 3 p.m. So we went to Islas Mujeres and spent the day there. When we returned, we headed to the rooms. I have to say the rooms were BEAUTIFUL. The rooms were exactly what we wanted-- Great ocean view, clean rooms, and next to each other. I looked for Fernando to thank him. Fernando never once asked for a tip or anything in return for this favor. So, I gave him a good tip-$$$. Our bell boy, Fernando Calderon helped us out on more than one occasion to make our stay at the Caribe the best possible. He was very honest, and helpful. I do believe the Bell Boy is the "Key" to have a great, and pleasant vacation; and Fernando ended up being the "Key" to our vacation.
