This was my second time to Cancun in just 2 months! We stayed at the Hilton the first time (see trip report) The gran Caribe was pretty busy, the food was so-so but the service was excellent and always with a smile. I wwent with my sister and niece this time. My niece had real issues with the food, she is pretty picky. We were ok with it but on the last day we opted for a Papa Johns pizza which was hot and tasted wonderful. Since everything pretty much is buffet you really never got hot food. They also have a system for restaurant reservations which recquire that you get up at 6:30Am and go downstairs and wait in line to reserve your timeslot for the foloowing day. Kinda weird but understandable, if you want the restaurant you get up early and reserve it! There was always food available and plenty of it! Food aside the grounds are not luxury but it is a large resort. We had an issue with the room as we had three people and supplied only a king size bed. They clain that this our travel agents fault. Well we weren't the only ones. Lots of people we talked with were not happy. It turned oput that they sent up a roll away that was the size of a twin so I was ok with that. It wasn't the most comfortable but I made do. We were on the quiet side of the hotel and we could hear the waves all night. Very nice! The beach was ok. Crowded. I would have liked to have seen the beach before the hurricane damage. Actually they were in better shape than some of the other hotels, lots of rocks! We did venture out to Isla Mujeres and rented a golf cart. Beware!!! They tell you on the way over that it will cost about 20$US not so! more like 40$US. We had an adventure with that. Our cart broke down and we had to wait until it would start again. It was at the end of the day so it wasn't a big deal. Don't rent the carts that have the smaller wheels! The larger wheeled carts are faster and more updated. Anyway he didn't apologize but thanked us for telling him that the cart broke down. I didn't feel like fighting and we had had a very unforgettable afternoon. Once was enough for that trip although lunch at JAX was absolutely wonderful, I had the fish tacos and the others had a hamburger that was enourmous! Pretty good drinks too! Come hungry! We shopped the area and went to Xel-Ha one day. For the others it was a wonderful time as they had never snorkeled. It is a great place for first timers. All in all everyone had fun and we would go again but maybe not do the all inclusive. Can't wait till December to go again. It becomes a habit!
