I understand that a number of vacationers have been to the aventura and
had a pleaseant time. When the six of us were there in mid march, it just
plain sucked. We sent several e-mails prior and even one via our travel
agent and never got a response. We were asking for some ajoining rooms so we
could be together. We wound up in three separate wings, and literally had to
fight with them to get them changed.Upon our arrival, and totally unaware of
it, we were supposed to have received an emergency message from home about a
death, and we never got the message at all. My daughter and son both tried
to call and alawys got a spanish speaking person. Well, obviously, the
message was a lost cause and my daughter knew that we were not going to be
made aware of the situation.
There was construction right next door at another resort and I mean
with-in about 150-200feet, and it was ongoing the entire time that we were
there. There was also construction going on two doors from my room. Not sure
why, but they were gutting the room and totally remodeling it. The noise
wasn,t too bad but ongoing nevertheless.
The power at the resort was interuptted every single night except the
last one while we were there. Of course, when the power goes out, so does
the a/c and fans, which makes it quite hot in the rooms for sleeping. Also,
the alarm does not go off , if you are planning on a n early morning trip,
like I was. I was supposed to be in cancun by 9am for a prepaid fishing
trip, the first morning that we were there, and I totally missed it due to
the power failure. Only lost $1100, becausew by the time we got to cancun,
it was about 10:30am and the charter was not in sight.
My wife and I both received some somewhat severe lacerations on something
in our bathroom area. Four cuts for her and one for me. The last time, she
needed first aid and was that ever a lot of fun finding someone who couild
care for this badly bleeding cut on her hand. We never could figure out what
we were getting cut so badly from, but the cuts were razor like.
On wednesday morning, there was NO WATER anywhere, and people were
ringing the front desk phone off the hook with complaints. I know because I
was standing near the fellow (antonio) as he was pulling out his hair trying
to apease the callers.
The food in the buffet area was good in the mornings, lots of fresh
fruits, good omlettes made to order, fresh fruit drinks "if the blender was
working"
pretty good food for breakfast, but the sit down dinners were a total
disaster. They have no clue how to serve german, italian or any other non
-mexican meals contrary to what they think. They completely lost our
reservations for a sit down meal one night, and the on;y reason that we
finally got into the resturant was because we had our reservation slip in
our hands, otherwise I believe that we would have been denied.
The pool area was very nice, and the food at the pool was also pretty
good, hamburgers,snacks, etc
But, I have to tell you, most of the people sitting in the pool and drinking
all day long with-out leaving the area for a rest-room break, makes me a
little wary of going into the same pool with them guys if you know what
I mean.
The resort overall is quite nice in "appearance", but needs a lot of
improvement in many areas.
The resort is located a long distance fron cancun so the cost to get to
and from main attractions can be
high. The taxi drivers tried more than once to rip us off on the fare, even
after we asked the fare prior to getting the ride.
Watch out for the time-share mongers like Jorge Altoro and his wife
Brenda. they will try to get you into there new timeshare.
By the way, our flight was 7 hours delayed going to cancun and only 4
hours delayed returning. apparently, most charter flights are delayed, but
we knew of that beforehand, so it made us quite unhappy. If we had been
prepared for this, it would not have been a problem for us.
Anyway, if you decide to go, I do not know if you can switch resort
hotels or not. Sure hope that you have a great time, and relax. Now that you
are aware of some of the things that can go wrong, you can be ready.
Do's....take $20 cashiers checks, they willtake them anywhere..take
sunscreen (good stuff) some places won't allow you to wear sunscreen prior
to swiming with dolphins, etc or snorkeling, so put it on before getting
there. Never give more money for a purchase than the cost of the
purchase..you won't see change if you do
go to the ruins,nice trip,take bottled water,hat,snacks
Have a Nice trip....Jim Palmer
