DAY 5 Today we decide to use our voucher for our car rental, so we go to the desk at 8am like they told us (they wouldn't reserve ahead of time) We are the first in line, and are told to return at 9:45 to receive our convertible bug. So we return, and he tells us that he does not have a bug available, but, rather conveniently, he has a Chevy we can rent for $55!! What the heck happened to our $10 bug?

Well I sensed a rip-off scam right away, and was quite irate. By this point I was quite fed up with the Reef Club and their dirty rooms, dirty washrooms, bugs, rude snack-bar workers, lazy bartenders, huge bar line-ups. So I blew up. I asked to speak to the manager, he came out and I was livid. I wanted my $10 car rental, I could see that this guy would just give me the same story every morning I came to try to rent the bug, not just today. The two gentlemen had a quick talk in spanish, and at the end of it (much to the chagrin of the rental-guy) I got the chevy for $10. Phew.

So we have to wait for a half-hour for the car to be cleaned or something, so we go to the bar to get a drink. I ask for a Miami Vice, which I've been drinking for days, (half banana, half strawberry dacquiri). WELLLL, the bartender was none-too-happy about having to blend a drink up, he rolled his eyes and swore in spanish (I know that swear word) and ended up just pouring strawberry syrup in the bottom half of the glass and pouring banana dacquiri on top!! Disgusting, couldn't even drink it. I was apalled. And this coming from the bartender I had tipped numerous times already (i still tip at all-inclusives) At the Blue Bay Village they would have been more than happy to make you ANYTHING you wanted, would never swear, never have this attitude. They were all pleasant, very friendly, knew you by name and drink by the second day! They served you by the pool, on the beach, you never had to wait for a drink. Well, not at the Reef Club. Drink line-ups were long, they would never come to YOU, and THESE DAMN BUG BITES, WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY?? (I find out tomorrow that they are indeed bed bugs, and fumigation of my room does not rid them)

So we get our car and go for a wonderful tour of the backside of the island, we skip Gervasio, we don't want within an arms length of the fertility goddess, no chances taken here. We stop at many beaches and are the only ones there, it was quite wonderful, peaceful and romantic to sit on the expanse of white sugar-like sand with the beautiful torquoise waves crashing in. I found lots of great seashells (i only took the ones that were so obviously empty of life). Suddenly a huge rainstorm comes, we run back to the car and are soaked before we even get there. Laughing, we jump in and continue on down the island. At the entrance to the lighthouse we see many cars stopped and people looking out over the water. We look in that direction to see a cyclone way out in the water!!! (on Coz they call it a waterspout)How amazing, I got a great picture of it, but it did worry me. We find out it is $10 american per person to visit the lighthouse, too expensive, and decide to head back to our hotel. On the way the weather suddenly clears, so we stop at Palancar Reef Beach Club. This was THE most beautiful beach we found on the island. The water here, although not great for snorkeling (not many fish or other marine life) was the most clear blue I have ever seen outside of a pool. It was just amazing. We stayed most of the day here, and when we were leaving encountered a little monkey! He was swinging in the trees (someone's pet I imagine) and he jumped right up into my arms!! He was so cute, he just sat and cuddled with me for a few minutes. Then he jumped down. I was stroking his hands and head and talking to him (one-sided conversation, of course) and he suddenly wrapped his tail around my wrist, grabbed my hand in his, and started leading me off into the trees (me tarzan, you jane??) I was laughing, and John was saying "hey, where you goin' with my wife?! It was quite amusing and wonderful, what a great little guy. He must have been a pet to be so tame, although he showed no signs of being a pet, besides he was a little fat.

So I regretted leaving him, I think he would have spent the day with me! Back to the Reef Club for a horrible dinner, horrible service, and more HBO.

DAY 6 On day six we woke up early as we still had the car and we went back around to the back side of the island. We sat on a barren stretch of beach there for a few hours and enjoyed the peacefulness. We then returned to the hotel to return the car and sit by the pool.

While sitting by the pool, I began to scratch my legs again, and a woman lying beside me noticed all my bug bites. I said that the mosquitos here were awful, and she, being an RN, said that they sure didn't look like mosquito bites. Perhaps spider bites? Well, at this point I started to worry and went to the front desk to ask about spiders, and THEY told me at that point that it was bed bugs, and they would have my room fumigated and sheets changed!!

I then went back to the pool and another woman was there who was also complaining about bed bugs in her room! Oh, I wasn't impressed.

We spent the rest of the day by the adult pool, talking with the many people we met. The bartender at this bar is WONDERFUL. He makes a wicked Margarita, and sings and dances all day. He is quite wonderful, his name is Isaias.

We went to bed early, and woke up to spend the morning at the beach. At noon we checked out and were off to the airport.

In all, I found this resort to be very disappointing. I will never go back there. They had virtually no entertainment, and what they did have was not good at all. It is too bad, because the grounds are really beautiful. OH! and I forgot to mention that I had some of my makeup stolen from my room, and of course they took the most expensive stuff. This was also upsetting. Lucky our valuables were locked up.
