Swim with Whale Sharks

The whale shark is the largest shark and the laregest fish...strange you say??? not really, because the Whale Shark, is in fact, NOT a whale. With a mouth that can be up to 4 feet wide, the whale shark is a filter feeder and sieves enormous amounts of plankton, krill, small fish, and squid to eat through its gills as it swims. It can process over 1500 gallons (6000 liters) of water each hour.

Whale sharks are harmless to people and ususally indifferent to divers. When it comes to speed they belong in the slow lane, as their top speed is 3 mph (5 kph).
This shark swims slowly near the surface, consuming small crustacean plankton and small fishes.

Each tour only takes 10 people. 30-45 minute boat ride to where the Whale Sharks are located.
If you want to go on the boat, but not snorkel, it is the same price per person.
Water, sodas, juice and a sandwich during the tour, open bar on the way back.

Round trip transportation from Cancun is included. Round trip transportation from the Riviera Maya is an additional $20 per person round trip and is payable to the Driver upon pick up.

Itinerary:
  • Go to the marina at Scuba Cancun, located at km5 in the hotel zone, by 8:45am
  • 9:00am - 10:30am: Continental breakfast during boat ride to Ixlache Reef
  • 10:30am - 11:15am: Snorkel on the reef (equipment & reef tax extra) or stay on the boat
  • 11:15am - 3:30pm: Isla Contoy - bi-lingual guided tour and free time to explore the island
  • 2:10pm - 3:30pm: Buffet lunch on the island
  • 3:45pm - 5:00pm: Return to marina at Scuba Cancun
More:
  • Each person MUST know how to swim to go on this tour
  • Minimum age: 10 years old to snorkel
  • Not for pregnant women more than 3 months
  • Each pair of snorkelers gets to go out with the Whale Sharks for 5-10 minutes at a time, until everyone gets a turn. Each person will have 2-3 turns

You can only use bio-degradable sunscreen on the reef.
